My Approach
In a crisis action is an imperative, doing nothing is not an option.
Clear and confident communication will engage the support, trust, and confidence of your employees. Unfortunately, emotions can get in the way, of communication and great decision-making. I support senior leaders with managing their emotions so they can communicate in an emotionally intelligent way both with themselves and others, and make good decisions beyond cognitive biases and limiting assumptions.
I take a coaching approach to facilitate professional leadership development and culture transformations.
Humans have to be intrinsically motivated to make sustainable change, & telling rarely hooks intrinsic motivation.
If technical skill development is required (for example production planning, financial literacy) I take a mentoring approach.
Psychological tools and models including Cognitive Behavioral Theory, Transactional Analysis, and Emotional Intelligence enable people to develop an understanding of themselves, others, and alternative perspectives.
Most people have experienced what it is like to be managed well and engaged by a boss, and what leadership behaviours disengage. They don’t need me to tell them what to do, rather support them to find alternative perspectives ‘on’ their business, which can be difficult to find when they are entrenched in it.
Most specifically to help my clients:
-
To understand the relationship between productivity and employee engagement
-
To believe that time spent leading is more valuable than time spent ‘doing’ in the business.
-
To widen their KP goals beyond the typical business metrics to include employee engagement levels because what gets measured gets managed (Peter Drunker), and engaged employees will worry about cash, growth, and profit, as much as founders do.
-
To be courageous and embrace positive change as an opportunity.
-
To keep a firm business foot in the future (to be able to identify shifts in the market and take advantage of them whilst the business has the time and resources to take advantage of the new), a positive view of the past and being able to find pleasure from the present*.
-
To recognise and navigate, often cognitively self-imposed limitations, that prevent us from achieving our organisational and personal goals. I challenge and facilitate my clients to strategically position themselves outside their comfort zone, where personal development is optimised and self-motivation propelling. Knowing and intrapersonal reflection can bring learning, but it is often not enough to bring action
